Marine PHycotoxins in the Arctic : an emerging climaTE change risk (PHATE)

The overarching objective of this project is to assess the risks of HABs and develop strategies to monitor, predict, manage, and adapt to their harmful impacts in the Arctic. The Canadian component of this project will specifically leverage collaborative efforts across the North Atlantic-Arctic region to help implement a locally adapted operational framework for detecting and predicting HABs, help building risk management strategies, clinical practice and community resilience in Nunatsiavut and Nunavik. These discussions will bring together two Inuit Nunangat regions sharing a similar, interconnected ecosystem but with different expertise on contaminants and monitoring (Nunavik and Nunatsiavut). This will strengthen both regions' response and adaptation to the emerging threat of phycotoxins while ensuring safe consumption of marine foods and sustaining Inuit self-determination for local monitoring and risk management.
